AltScribe — Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 4, 2026

AltScribe (“the App”, “we”, “us”) is a Shopify app that generates alt text for product images using AI. This policy explains what data we access, how we use it, and your rights.

What we access

When you install AltScribe, and with your permission via Shopify’s API, we access:

• Product data — product images, titles, and image metadata (including existing alt text).
• Shop information — your store domain and basic shop configuration.

How we use it

• We send your product images to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate descriptive alt text.
• We write the generated alt text back to your product images in Shopify.
• We store your shop configuration (plan, credit usage, language preference) and a record of the alt text we generated (to power the audit / coverage view).

Sub-processors

We use these third parties to operate the App:

• Anthropic — AI processing of product images to generate alt text.
• Vercel — application hosting.
• Neon — database hosting.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone other than these sub-processors for the purpose of operating the App.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data only while the App is installed. When you uninstall AltScribe, or upon a valid deletion request, we delete your shop’s data. We support Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks (customer data request, customer redact, and shop redact).

Security

All data is transmitted over TLS. We do not process customer personal information. Product images sent to the AI are used solely to generate alt text.

Your rights

You may request access to or deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. Uninstalling the App triggers deletion of your store’s data.
